Guardiola Castle lies in the municipality of Sant Salvador de Guardiola, on the top of a hill overlooking extensive lands where there was once a guardiola, a defensive construction, which for years marked the limits of Old Catalonia in the fight against the Saracens, fending off the attacks that came from the Calaf area alongside other castles such as GuÓrdia Castle, the strongholds of the Montserrat massif and others positioned at strategic points along the Llobregat river. After being owned by a number of feudal lords, the old castle became a fortified farmhouse in the sixteenth century and is still connected to the same family today.
